- After much speculation, research and deliberation, i have decided to create a new breed of local newspaper. I have decided to aim my newspaper solely at the youth market.
-It will be a monthly newspaper. This is because there is simply not enough going on on a weekly basis to discuss and also because of the cost situation, as the newspaper is free. Also, the youth may see it as more of a pleasure to see a copy once a month than simply every week, which can be tedious.
- The idea came from the very town i live in, which is constantly scrutinized for it's lack of shops, community buildings and general things to do. Especially those whom are young (under 18 to be exact).
- I thought of how my newspaper could be used as a way to clean up the streets, which can be achieved through attempts to create a sense of community within the town, by creating youth clubs, new sport equipment and with integration of local businesses aimed at the youth within the town this can be done.
- Specifically, i logged onto a Facebook group called 'Don't Let Dunstable Die', which is run by a group of volunteers who work to ensure new businesses are integrated into the town, organising events etc to gain a sense of community spirit. I believed that i could do the same, but target this solely at the youth market.

PRICE
- It would be logical for the local council to be involved in a cause such as this, as youth crime is so infamous these days they would want to be seen doing all they can to deter it. Therefore, with the councils funding, the paper would be delivered free to all those between 13-17 years old.
NAME OF NEWSPAPER
- 'The Dunstablian Eye'
- I'm extremely happy with the name of my newspaper, as it's original and effective. The term 'eye' refers to that the newspaper can see everything, therefore doesn't miss any important information out.
- Other possible choices were: The Dunstable Times, The Dunstable Express, The Dunstablian News. However i felt these were dull and and an original & creative name would be needed in order to capture the attention of the younger generation.
FRONT PAGE
- Weirdly enough, i have had a headline planned in my head for a while: ''Those who set fire to the church are ASBOlutely disgraceful'', using the intergration of the terms 'ASBO' and 'Abso' for a clever effect.
- I will also include an article written by the monthly columnist, a resident of Dunstable whom now stars in the UK hit comedy 'The Inbetweeners' (which also fits in well with my target audience). I included this fictional addition as i felt that with a newspaper of this nature, the young people needed a role model to look up to, to motivate them.
- As a standard part of local newspapers, i will include promotional adverts at the bottom of the page, such as discounts at local clothing retailers, which appeals to my target audience.
- I will also include sub stories to back up my main story, to engage the readers and make them want to open the paper and move on. This may be on the subject of activities in the local area, part time job vacancies, sporting activities etc.
PAGE 2
- I will focus page two as a contents page, much like how The Sun does. On the left i would like to have a feature story, maybe about a youth achievement etc, then to right have what's on in today's issue listed in a column, followed by another advertisement.
LAYOUT
As my genre of newspaper is different, i feel i can be diverse in how i lay out my newspaper. However, i do not want to be too difinitive, as i don't wish it to look like a magazine, i still want it to have the newspaper look to it but with a younger twist to it, which i will discover fully when actually making my newspaper.
